"Great Thought"

Falling Down is NOT The Defeat.

Defeat is When You Refuse To Get Up.

Good Morning.

Women & Men

  • Women gather a lot of background material before arriving at a decision. They are called “inductive reasoners”. Men are “deductive”, arriving quickly at a conclusion.

  • Woman’s brain has 10 times more connective tissue which is good for assimilating information.

  • Man’s brain contains only 6 times more processing tissue enabling him to compartmentalize and focus more narrowly on decisions.

  • Woman is better multitasker whereas a man, who is forceful is seen as assertive & aggressive !!

  • Woman CEO is more straightforward than most men !! (I am ashamed !)

  • Women say of husbands;
“Some things, much like husbands, are good from far but far from good !”

This is what I read on the weekend:

GEN-NEXT LEADER

Q)What is ultimate act & purpose of leadership?

Ans) When the CEO or Chairman brings his or her organization to a point where it no longer misses him.

Weak leaders have no trouble doing this but when the helmsman is powerful doing so becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible !!

Q)What sort of leadership quality or characteristic should the Generation-next Leaders have?

Ans) * Performance orientation.
* Learnbility.
* Global mindedness
* Team building

Q)Who could be a CEO today?

Ans) The CEO of today must be a person who can build competent & energetic teams around himself. It is this last act that will determine his legacy within the organization.

"Relation" means

to HELP without HESITATION,

to GIVE without EXPECTATION,

to LOVE without LIMITATION,

& REMEMBER even without COMMUNICATION.

Nourish your relationship during the weekend..!!

My Evaluation

You will recall that in my last Thursday post I had mentioned I will submit my assessment both upward and downward. The Friday and Saturday were a rest-day for the blog and I travelled on Sunday early morning to Oman hence the delay.

Many may have thought that I got scared…!! Not me of course.

The attempt here is to be transparent with all & so should we all be.

Below is the summary of the evaluation done by my colleagues who report to me - the upward assessment.

Perception:

· Considered a dynamic, commercially sharp and a tough CEO

· Highly respected for his negotiation skills and fast decision making

· Is considered the driving force/one man army behind the company’s success and a person who can guide the company through difficult times.

· Proactive leader with a high level of passion

· Has been successful in building pockets of excellence within the organization.

· Over the years has improved in controlling his anger on people.

· Is overloaded and does not delegate enough to down the line manager

· Gets involved in small jobs/activities wasting his precious time

· Has not been successful in building a second line.

· Should accept that personnel down the line will make mistakes. Should guide and provide a chance for them to improve.

· Bypasses the line of command and would directly assign work to down-the line personnel.

· Does not spend enough time in talking to employees and addressing their problems.

Well this is a perception but for me I will always remember what some one said ‘’Perception is the reality and everything else is negotiable. ‘’

Glad to realise that I passed with a 5/10…!! or will it be considerd more than that since all reds do not mean a ZEROOOOOOO ??

I will mull over these issues and perhaps cover them in my future blog texts soon. Wait for tomorrow to read the downward assessment.

Have a good day!

Sanjay

Thursday, 08 January 2009

In one of my recent interviews the candidate said “The Spirit of an organisation is created from the top and I evaluate the Character of the CEO and top management when considering a job offer truly it is well said when we all look at our Chairman.

Obviously it is difficult to know about the Character of an individual in the short span of interview time and so the people who are targeted to be employed do a reference check on us as we do on them at times through their past employees. Didn’t realize that we are being constantly assessed by someone or the other at all times !!

I was compelled to read ‘Character’ in a management book and the text said “It is character through which leadership is exercised; it is character that sets the example and is imitated. Character is not something one can fool people about. The people with whom a person works, especially subordinates, know in a few weeks whether he or she has integrity or not. They may forgive a person for a great deal of incompetence, ignorance, insecurity or bad manners. But they will not forgive a lack of integrity in that person nor will they forgive high management for choosing him..!!”

Furthermore, on the “SPIRIT of an organization” the dictionary says “If an organization is great in spirit, it is because the spirit of its top management is great. If it decays it does so because the top rots, as the proverb has it “Trees die from the top !!”

Moral of the interview for me and all of us is – No one should ever be appointed to a senior position unless top management is willing to have his or her character serve as the model for subordinates.

And lastly it will be favour to me if you all be my well wisher and caution me when you see me rotting !! (it is not just a statement, it is my earnest request.)

Even as you ponder over the weekend on my blog I will ponder on my annual assessment and share the same with you soon. Till then wishing you a happy working day & a relatively restfull weekend. Rock on !!!!

Bye

Good Morning..

One of my friends sent me a quote this morning which I would like to share with you.

The quote is “A good relationship is like a pillow..

When tired, you sleep on it!

When sad, you drop tears on it!

When angry, you punch it, and when happy you hug it.. !!

Have a successful Day…!!

All @ ANIE

Good Morning & welcome to my blog, a new beginning to a New Year 2009 !!

I will try to reach you all with my thoughts through this blog and it will be an endeavour that I do write on it everyday so long as my time management improves!!

I will share my thoughts, ideas as applicable to every day life be it at work or home or as I travel

Year 2008 was going on as a brilliant year for us and the world until the "bomb of economic crisis" blew up. Did you know that only 2 people out of the 6 billion on the earth could foresee it come and one was Dr. Rubbini ,an economist who studied with my cousin brother during his University days in USA?

That brings me to the point of thinking how we all must manage in these turbulent times and the Mantra No. 1 is to stop squandering of resources on obsolete business and free up capable people to take advantage of new opportunities.

We all have to have a discipline that makes us face up to the reality. We need to get things done effectively and that is possible if we slough off the past that has ceased to be productive.

Leaders will have to abandon "yesterday" and then only will they create "tomorrow".

Until and unless we do systematic and purposeful abandonment, we will squander our best resources on things we should never have been doing or should no longer do. Businesses that do not do it will have fewer resources available for tomorrow

Our Chairman believes that our style of operation needs modification and redesign since with period of time every activity becomes obsolete. At ANIEwe must be capable of change.

A company “Renoir” from Sweden is likely to start a 4 week review and analysis of our Business process and will likely educate us on areas of weakness and improvement. Hopefully a new set of yardsticks to measure performance of our companies will be evolved.

Let us brave the Year 2009 as a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More,,).

Good Day..
